Mark Dann is the Regional Campaign and Outreach Manager with Compassion & Choices, the oldest and largest organization dedicated to expanding options and improving care at the end of life. He has been with the organization since 2013. Access to medical aid in dying is a personal issue for Mark. One of his family members chose a violent death to end his terminal cancer, and the episode has haunted his family. Since then other family members have been able to outline the treatments they wanted or didn’t want and experience peaceful deaths more in line with their ideas and values.
Mark joined Compassion & Choices as the New Jersey Campaign Manager. He then moved on to supervise the Compassion & Choices campaigns in New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, helped set up the New York campaign and helped bring California’s medical-aid-in-dying bill over the finish line. Mark was then promoted to Federal Affairs Director to implement Compassion & Choices’ federal agenda. Since the 2016 election, Compassion & Choices has strengthened its emphasis on opportunities in the states, and Mark is leading efforts to focus on active regional campaigns and implementation of existing medical aid-in-dying laws across the country. Throughout his career he has met with and moved scores of Federal, State and Local leaders to advance seemingly controversial topics.
